Why do Marriages Die?

Searching for Reasons

To find reasons why divorce is so rampant these days, one does not have to look very far. By that, I don't mean to suggest that the one reason which is the answer to all problems is so close to us that we cannot miss it. What I intend to suggest is something many people may find very unpopular and perhaps nearly universally offensive.

Marriage: To Save or Not to Save

Marriage Covenant - A Wedding Vow, Promise

When we enter into marriage, we make promises

  • to God, who trusted use with His loved ones,
  • to the one we are marrying, to remain faithful
  • to our families, to stay the course and never divorce without dire reason
  • and to society, to uphold the most foundational covenant necessary to the honor and survival of the nation

and those promises are for life. If we're honest, we keep those promises. Divorce, adultery, abuse should never be an option. If we break the vows, we're not honest; we're liars and hypocrites and we need to come clean. That may seem harsh, but to love people sincerely, we must think of marriage in these terms.

Faith, What is it Good For?

Can Faith Save a Marriage?
Can faith save a marriage? Or is that a fantasy, an unrealistic expectation destined for disappointment and pain? Or is faith a calculated gamble on the unknown for lack of an alternate, trustworthy solution? Are we supposed to have faith in God or ourselves, or in random fate?
What do you think?

What Works to Save Marriages?

What Works to Save Marriage?

Are there things that you have been doing to make your marriage work that you know for certain should work but always seems to fail?  Do you find this frustrating? Do you find yourself doing the same thing with more and more intensity and finding that the problems just coming with greater intensity in response?

Marriage Saving Faith

Relationship skills, emotional maturity, and prayer are important for saving a marriage from divorce.  But, what effect does faith have in the success of saving a marriage? And what is the difference between foundationless faith that believes nothing will take care of everything, and reasonable faith that has results?

What Make a Wedding Valid?

What Makes a Wedding Valid?

Humanistic Viewpoint:

One difference between animals and humans is the capacity to make promises and keep them.  Animals cannot.  Animals just do what comes naturally.  Animals have souls as do humans, but they have no spirit -- no concept of God, of religion, of morality, of right versus wrong.

A Recommittment Day Promise

Here is an idea for a Recommittment Day Promise:

Christians Having Extramarital Affairs

Have you ever heard someone talk about what horrible things Christians can do sometimes?

Couple Dancing

We hear about Christian women leaving their husbands and running off with other men. We hear of preachers crying out for money and flying to Vegas to squander God's money on prostitutes, pornography, and gambling.

Do you think they will go to heaven? Will they be forgiven if they say they are Christians? If they repent? If they say the sinner's prayer? If they are baptized? If a Christian has his or her ticket to heaven guaranteed for all time, can they live in adultery, lying, extortion, and such?
